SAPience2009 preview
It takes 30 minutes to show how to start from scratch and have a new SAP system in a separate cloud in those 30 minutes fully functional production environment.
I am truly excited as you can see :) we have been talking about having SAP in a cloud and SAP has been slamming the cloud as a option. But we say YES, put your non-mission critical SAP solutions in the cloud.

The Open and Independent Conference for SAP Users
For the first time in the US, SAP users, analysts, vendors, and key figureheads who helped to create the ERP market will gather to present and discuss ways to reduce SAP-related costs and find new ways to transition into a new era.
Sapience2009 will take SAP users on a “journey to independence.” Our goal is to foster an atmosphere where users understand how to leverage market alternatives and how to avoid the negative side effects of the one-stop-shopping paradigm.
This conference is unique in several ways:
* it provides an independent perspective that embraces virtually all possibilities outside the original vendor’s scope
* it lets the original authorities who coined this market voice their critical views
* it gets innovative users to explain their novel ideas
* it allows attendees to kick the tires of real alternatives.
Sapience2009 focuses on what has become a buyers’ market. Are you taking advantage of this change? Here’s a chance to speed up this process.
Participate in:
* Thought provoking sessions
* Open discussions
* Debates on the pros and cons of different strategies
Network with peers who share the same challenges and goals.
Learn tactical information you can put into use immediately:
* A Roadmap for Cost Cutting
* Legal Aspects of SAP License and Maintenance Agreements
* Third Party Maintenance
* Second Hand Licenses
* Open Source Strategies for SAP Users
* Cloud Offerings

Delivering SAP via the cloud
Extensive creation of SAP Clouds for companies
HILN ANNOUNCES CLOUD BASED SOLUTIONS FOR SAP
Milwaukee, WI.,—October 13, 2009—HiLn, A leader in cloud solutions, today announced the Silver Lining Cloud Solution designed to enable companies to deploy SAP software in the cloud. Whether due to cost, complexity or lack of resources, the vast majority of SAP applications have never been set up in a cloud and have not been tested at normal user volumes, much less for unexpected spikes in traffic. HiLn’s team of technical experts have spent months refining this product for SAP clients.
“To our customers, performance matters!” said Carter, CTO, HiLn. “By utilizing our Silver Lining Cloud Solution” our customers will have the ability to start, stop, reuse or throw away and start anew in 6 minutes for each SAP cloud which only leads to greater levels of reliability ease of consumption and stronger SAP systems.”
“Improving performance cannot be achieved solely by adding hardware,” said Christopher Carter, CTO, HiLn. “SAP applications and deployment stacks are complex and must be tested under real world load conditions to assess what actual performance will be in production. Having a process that ensures systems are tested is an essential element of cloud computing development.” 75% of an SAP landscape can be placed in a cloud with no disruption to the normal day to day business of your production environment.
Delivering SAP via the cloud is a reality and moving your training system or a test system or 75% total can provide your organization the following benefits:
* Provides a low-risk approach to seed cloud solutions into your environment
* Lower TCO in the data center with up to 50% reduction in total system costs
* Sustainability with operational savings of up to 80% while fulfilling “green” initiatives
* Increased ROI through server reallocation and labor reduction/redeployment
* Solution provides access to all SAP applications including ECC6, BI, CRM, PLM, and Solution Manager
* No additional data center, HW, SW or admin hours are needed
* Never refresh an environment again – just throw it away!

Enabling SAP creation in A SAP cloud
Folks, you read into the info he said deeper and you see just that. Now I too sometimes the flame is out in R&D at SAP, but to be honest I am a geek I love technology and the growth that can come by it, but you need to allow the creativity to fester, let it grow.
So as an SAP firm, we did that. I took the last 5 years of my life and have grown an SAP landscape in clouds...Big beautiful fluffy wonderful clouds! SO I know have over 400 SAP landscapes in clouds and NOT a 1 is a PRD environment. Nada, Zip, Zero Zilch not a 1! Why? The cloud is still too new. If my sandbox, or a training or a development cloud vanishes, nothing hurt. But a production kills my company!
So again, look at it as your taking the non-production solutions and your putting them at your granny's home. You know their safe because granny is kind & sweet and does wonderful things, but that one time she touches it "blam" out goes the light....Well we re-provision a new cloud from storage and less then 30 minutes later were back in business as if nothing was there to slow us down. That's the power for an SAP firm NOT that production is in a cloud. That my fellow SAP geek's is real development power and we at Hiln do it every day for the SAP Eco-system!

Virtualization and the Cloud
Well there is Amazon, rackspace, goGrid, Terremark, etc. We use Terremark and at times gogrid for our enterprise solutions with SAP.
Rackspace for email and web and testing Amazon is being used.
BUT this is only the beginning, there is the solution on the cloud, the organization you are going to use and how your going to run them.
There are cost's associated with each. the most expensive by far is Terramark, and the lowest cost is GoGrid based on our current usage.
Each firm has their own idea on how to get to the core of their usage so be very careful how and who you choose.

How soon is the reality of running your SAP solutions in a "cloud" rather in your data center?
Acclaimed SAP cloud Guru Christopher Carter take's the time to sit down and to discuss the very real movement to your SAP solutions into a cloud.
• Implementing cloud as part of a hybrid strategy that brings value internally and externally will help balance the risks and rewards.
• Once enterprises leverage cloud computing, often cost savings and a richer customer experience are passed along to end users
• In-turn can help your organization exit the downturn with a stronger competitive edge.
Discuss why you need cloud:
• Drives up utilization, drives down internal costs
• Improves flexibility and agility in IT infrastructure
• Benefits the end user, creating a richer customer experience
By taking 18 years of SAP experience and matching it with Virtualization and Cloud applications over the course of his professional career, Chris has come up with some very in-depth SAP Cloud options that he has stated will and are revolutionizing the way companies run SAP Software, as well as to how they can run their businesses more efficiently, securely, and with greater TCO reporting BUT also looking at the pitfalls if not planned or executed properly.

That's absolutly true.
Let's look at the facts:
Cloud computing is basically a GUI interface to a backend virtualized group of systems and those servers are secured as they are In your center but the benefits are that the 80% of wasted server usage is now distributed between other users
So here we go we are secure utilized and creating a stronger grouping

Let the best SAP cloud win
So in steps other 3rd parties and our clouds and our test's on SAP solutions in the cloud....basicaly remember that the cloud is nothing more then a virtual server farm with a GUI front end...so ANY SAP solution we have tested is able to get into and run in the cloud.
We actually have standardized on the AppZero application to get our SAP solutions into the cloud then we have multiple clouds we can run too for deployment.....We have tested SAP solutions and different operating systems, databases versions etc...
Results:
This is not for the 1st timers you need experience, we went through many crash and burn scenerios and even yet after over 100 test deployments we still get a hiccup trying to test new ideas, but the great thing is we can deploy a new "cloud" instance in less then 30 seconds...Try that in your data center!

I have been moved to the monday Morning slot at 11:45 am pst following Manfred Buchmann, of SAP.
We came to lookm at the entire 24 speakers and I realized I am the only partner speaking with no corporate motive. I am speaking on behalf of the SAP client.
This should be a unique week for myself, SAP, & the future of SAP's virtualization direction.
We shall keep this blog updated all week via email updates.

SAP Virtualization Week 2009
I have the honor to be presenting with some of the big dog's in the industry...Simon Crosby of Citrix, Steve Herrod of VMware, Gunther Schmalzhaf of SAP along with Virtualization Guru's Scott Lowe and Rick Scherer.
For me this is 18 years in the making since my mainframe days and really in the SAP eco-system i believe we are 3 years behind the 8 ball. This event is available on-line as well as was in person but that part is sold out.
My presentation is Tuesday afternoon at 2:15 p.m. pst. Virtualization and Business Agility: How to create a virtual strategy for real success in SAP
I will be focusing on the SAP eco-system, NOT a particular solution because as we know each SAP landscape is unique and one solution can not support them all.
I will be very honest on what we see with our clients in the SAP eco-system, what we tell them, how we plan a virtual strategy, but to give you a peak before we really key on planning! ;)
So please logg into the site, watch all the speakers you wish and lets show how SAP in a virtual environment is a $1.875 Billion savings point!
I also will be blogging everyday from this event and others in the upcoming weeks...VMware has their new product launch on the 21st and I will be a featured speaker at Citrix Synergy as well with 2 presentations and 2 geek speaks....so again i will provide as much detail as possible....send any questions to me directly at ccarter@ccierp.com
Tahnk you all
